On Friday, September 22, Millbrook successfully hosted its annual Blood Drive.
Carried out by the FFA and Key Club, under the guidance of Ms. Bethke, Millbrook hosted its annual Blood Drive in the auditorium; donating to the Winchester Medical Center.
Ms. Bethke commented on the turnout, “I think we did fairly well this year. The goal they had set for us was 14 units of blood, and we collected 17.” Due to scheduling problems in previous drives, the results were not as expected, “…they were scheduled too close together so people couldn’t donate in March if they donated in January. We were better this time.” She also commented on the importance of donation saying “It’s something that we can only get from other individuals, so it’s something that has to be donated so I think it’s important to be a part of that process.”
Student Katie Booth, junior, gave blood for the first time on Friday. She credited her parents as an inspiration for doing so, “I followed in their footsteps.” She described her experience as fine, with light complications resulting in a hematoma; bruising as a result of clotted blood. Even so, she said that she was eager to give again next year.
