On November 10th, Millbrook hosted the eighth annual Veteran’s Day breakfast and ceremony. The ceremony concluded with a large turnout, consisting of many veterans and their family members.
The servicemen received a breakfast consisting of fruit, breads, bagels, pastries, and chicken minis from Chick-Fil-A, along with juice and hot coffee. After they finished, Mrs. Butler, our principal, said a few words in honor of these brave men. Following her speech, Mrs. Tara Woolever talked about the class that makes the program possible and thanked them for all that they do.
Moving into the auditorium, students from all three county high schools greeted and helped the transition. The speeches these students presented consisted of heartfelt memories and experiences learned through interviews from some veterans prior to the program.
The symphonic band played each of the branch’s anthems and allowed the veterans to stand and be recognized during this time. Mr. Kelly directed as the Men’s Choir sang a very moving song entitled “Last Letter Home”. Videos of interviews and pictures of loved ones caused tears to fill some attendee’s eyes.
A World War ll Veteran stated, “It’s nice that we can have a gathering place to see everyone happy because normally it’s just a reunion at someone’s funeral.”
