Bake Sale Hotties is a new punk band in Winchester that has already stirred up excitement within the scene. Their passionately wild lead singer, Zach Dandar, blew the crowd away as he thrashed around on stage at their first ever show in August. His gritty vocals and erratic movements caught the attention of everyone in the room, and it seemed as if he had been performing for years. It was impossible to tell that he joined the band only a week before their first show.
After the band Absent separated, ex-members Justin Bush (bass) and Kenny Detwiler (drums) wanted to start something new. Justin had also left Baxter and felt that he needed a fresh start. After a great deal of discussing and planning, they finally made the decision to invite Collin Boyer and Luke Rangel (current members of X-Ray Cat) to start a band with them as a sort of side project that they could do alongside their main band. They complied eagerly, thus officially establishing Bake Sale Hotties in late March. Originally, Luke was the designated lead singer, but Collin was acquainted with Zach, who coincidentally was looking to front a band. He joined the band in August with just enough time to prepare him for their first show.
They’re working to create a rather authentic sound, their style inspired by classic punk. They’re going for something similar to Minor Threat and Black Flag, but they also tie in hardcore and ska. Some other bands they’re influenced by are NOFX, Blink 182, Bad Religion, and Weezer. Bake Sale Hotties have already incorporated these bands into the sound of their four original songs – which they’re going to record with Valley Cat soon. Along with this, they have shows booked in October. Look out for Bake Sale Hotties if you want to see great local punk music.
