Taylor Swift, the iconic country-to-pop star, rose to fame within a decade. The little country girl born in Reading, Pennsylvania on December 13, 1989 used to sing about high school romances and mean bullies, but now encourages the power of being an independent female through her lyrics.

Not only can the girl sing, Swift has standards that she never fails to uphold. Most people may know her as “the girl you don’t want to date because you’ll get an entire album dedicated to your mistakes,” but truly, Swift is just a normal, down-to-earth, low-maintenance woman searching for a way to fully maximize life. Swift’s self titled album was the first album released by Big Machine Records when she was just 16 years old and a freshman in high school. She said, “I’m not that complicated. My complications come out in my songs. All you have to do to be my friend is like me…and listen.”

Why does Taylor Swift have this bad reputation with guys? It’s no secret she dates. But what’s wrong with dating? How would you like to be in a relationship but completely miserable? In all truth, her every move is plastered across social media and blown way out of proportion. Don’t be so quick to judge!

You may have heard her new album, 1989, which was released October 27, 2014. Her style has changed drastically since her self-titled album which is dedicated to young broken hearts and high school drama. She said it was, “To all the boys who thought they would be cool and break my heart, guess what? Here are 11 songs written about you. HA.”

Each album she releases have new techniques and influences introduced as she evolved into who she is today.

The purpose of 1989 is to promote spending time on yourself and the ones who mean the most to you. Swift describes her new change as her, “freeing time in life” and “figuring out who I am.” As stated in the 40th anniversary edition of People magazine, “I made the decision to spend time on my own and figure out who I am.”

As far as dating and relationships go, she tells People magazine, “I’m not too worried about whether I meet someone.” Taylor has completely dedicated this point in her life to individualism and the simple pleasures in life.

One of the most impressive accomplishments of Taylor over the holiday season was her Gift Giving of 2014 where she started a social media trend called #TayLurking where she studied her fans’ pages and picked a few lucky Swifties to receive a gift package wrapped and bought by the one and only Taylor Swift. She then mailed the presents with a handwritten letter to each of her deserving and adoring fans.

Taylor is constantly giving back to her fans and to all kinds of charities. Another recent give back was when she helped a fan by giving her $1,989 for student loans. Back in 2007, she launched her very own campaign to protect kids from dangerous online offenders.

In my opinion, Taylor is an outstanding role model and should be recognized for her efforts. Nobody is perfect and she is a great example of trying to be the best person she can be.

The Red World Tour wrapped up in June of 2014 with opening act Ed Sheeran. No worries, Taylor Swift has announced dates for her 1989 World Tour, but hurry, because tickets are selling quickly!
