Girls Cross Country: Starting Strong

The Girls Cross Country competed at the Central Invitational in Woodstock at the North Street Cross Country Course on Saturday, the 26th of August. The girls started the season off strong, finishing first out of the 15 other teams competing, including the local team from James Wood.

Kaycee Cox-Philyaw, a Junior at Millbrook and third year member of the Girls Cross Country team commented on her performance at the meet, saying that the first race is always difficult, quoting her coach saying “First race, worst race”. She performed well getting 20 minutes on a 3 mile course, just under a 5k, setting her sights this season on breaking 19 minutes, believing that her team should make it to states this year.

The Girls also won their second meet against John Handley finishing first out of 17 teams. Their next meet is at the Judges Classic, a district tournament against Kettle Run, Liberty and Sherando at the Third Battle of Winchester Battlefield on the 6th.
