From the week of August 28 to September 3, I was in Valley Driving School to go through the last stages of getting my driver’s license. I know the fear of failing is there when you drive. You want to be a perfectionist and do every single thing right. The reality is that there is no perfect driver. Mistakes are made and you just have to learn from them. I was terrified of Behind-The-Wheel for the fear of messing up, but my instructor, Ms. Sanders, was very patient and calm when I was panicking. You go into the car with a positive atmosphere around you. When you get on the road, the nerves start to slowly go away and you feel more relaxed. Ms. Sanders would talk to us and let us listen to music while we’re on the road. I would sometimes forget that she was marking down points and it would just feel like a casual drive instead of a test.
I also learned more about driving that week. When there were times where I didn’t know what to do at a roundabout or any other situation, Ms Sanders would tell me what to do calmly and I would use that information if we were to do it later. At the end of the week, when I signed the papers, it was a big relief because I finally have a driver’s license! So when you start your in-car sessions, take a deep breath, don’t let your nerves take over, let your instructor help you, and drive.
