Harry Potter is a brilliant concoction from the mind of a god, and it absolutely should not die. This article is in reference to one posted on our website on October 18 which you should probably read before you start this article. Read here.
I disagree with the article and I feel it needs to be corrected, so here are my opinions on the new film and play within the Harry Potter Universe and why Harry Potter should continue to live on as the boy who lived.
Harry Potter was also a big part of my childhood. I was Draco Malfoy one year for halloween, the movies blew me away, and the books got me into writing or reading so it is safe to say that I would not be who I am without these books. I agree that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two” was a great wrap up…to the series.
Now, this is where I start hate the article. Warner Brothers is not ‘milking’ the Harry Potter franchise. It is completely J.K. Rowling’s choice what to do with her books and characters and she did not have to give the rights for the next movie to Warner Brothers. She chose too. Warner Brothers was kind to her and allowed her, in contract, to play a primary part in the making of the films, an option most authors do not get. She is also withholding the right to Harry Potter and The Cursed Child from them, and I’ve stated in a previous article here that I don’t think they should make it a movie.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to FInd Them is not a money grab. The main character Newt Scamander has no connection to Harry Potter other than the fact that student at Hogwarts used his textbooks. It’s a new character in a new location and will have very little to do with the original series. Yes, no doubt Warner Brothers and J.K. Rowling will make a lot of money off this movie, but with a new school and new houses, there is no doubt in my mind that the experience fans will get from the movie will be worth much more that whatever the corporation makes.
Harry Potter had his story and now it’s time for fans to explore the universe further with fun new characters they will come to know and love. They are leaving Harry alone and his story will not continue. Why ruin something perfect? If this was about ‘milking’ the franchise we would get second rate stories about Harry, Ron, and Hermione, Voldemort would not actually be dead and we’d go through the same story again.
