International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day was established more than a hundred years ago in 1911. The holiday focuses on achievements by women around the world and this year is no exception.

This year’s celebrations included a social media campaign by the International Women’s Day’s official website: #BeBoldForChange. The campaign’s goal is for everyone in the world to commit to a bold action for bettering women’s rights and moving towards gender equality. Today’s Google Doodle is even themed for the holiday.

A protest by Women’s March on Washington, who organized the namesake Women’s March on Washington is titled A Day Without a Woman and has also been enacted today. The goal of the protest is to show the importance of a woman’s place in the economy.
