The Pittsburgh 6.6K Run and Family Walk is held every year around October. This run is a 6.6 distance (4.1 miles) run and the proceeds from the run benefit two Pittsburgh charities: The Mario Lemieux Foundation and The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation.
Runners can register online or can go to Consol Energy. Once registered for the race, runners pick up a packet. The packet has a chip to put through their shoelaces and a race bib. If runners get to Consol early, they get a race t-shirt. The runners will get a gold shirt and the walkers will get a black shirt. Race shirts are not guaranteed after the online registration closes.
There are no refunds or deferments of entry fees. Registration for an adult runner in the 6.6K costs $45 plus a $3 fee and youths are $35 plus a $2 fee. For an individual one-mile walk, it costs $30 plus a $2 fee. A family of four for the one-mile walk is $90 plus a $5 fee.
All walkers for the one-mile are behind the runners. The walkers split from the 4.1 milers sometime down a Pittsburg street. Pets are allowed to participate as well.
Race begins at 8:30 a.m., but runners are required to be there by at least an hour before that time. The run starts and finishes at the Consol Energy Center. Participants will run through the streets of Pittsburgh, as roads will be closed for the race, so participants must run/walk a twenty minute mile or they will be traveling with traffic.
At the end, all racers are given a medal and some food and drinks. Also runners may get a high five or a picture with Mario Lemieux himself. If interested, have any questions or want to learn more, go to https://www.crowdrise.com/pittsburghpenguinsrunwalk
