Trophy Class!

Each year, schools from across the state are invited to attend the Virginia High School League (VHSL) & Jostens Regional Championships hosted in Fredericksburg, Virginia. The convention consists of multiple lectures by numerous speakers on diverse topics, ranging from editing, to expanding coverage, improving writing skills and much more.

This event also hosts the annual awards banquet where schools who have submitted their entries into certain categories such as individual photographs or stories, as well as competitions for entire programs such as Print Edition, Online Edition and other things like magazine or yearbook.

Last year, the BlueXpress staff submitted an entry into the Online competition in hopes of emerging as a potential winner. The rules stated that the website would be visited at random times within the year the entry was submitted and be evaluated based on certain factors such as online interactivity, how current the website and stories were, diversity of coverage, and much more. The twelve members of the 2014-2015 staff worked vigorously to meet these standards and impress the judges who visited the site.

On Monday, October 5, 2015 the VHSL convention was held yet again, and with it came the awards ceremony. To the surprise and delight of the BlueXpress members and advisors, the online website was announced as the trophy class winner for the Online competition, taking first place. Upon collection of the plaque, an attached paper stated the overall results of the judging of the BlueXpress site. Of the twenty-two categories judged for an online news program, the BlueXpress received a score of excellent or above in twenty.

With the acceptance of this prestigious award, the BlueXpress staff and advisors would like to extend our thanks to not only members of the school and patrons who helped support this success, but to all visitors of our site. We humbly accept this award not only for ourselves, but for all the readers who visit each day and promise to not settle for this one victory, but to come back next year even better than the previous year. We hope to bring back another victory to the Millbrook community.
